Staying at the InterContinental Resorts in French Polynesia

First stop Tahiti

Tahiti is visited by every traveler that comes to French Polynesia, but not many stay on the island long. All international flights land in Tahiti before visitors continue on their way to other islands. We are definitely guilty of this the first time we visited in 2019, we never stepped outside the airport. This time we were excited to take our time and make our way around the whole island of Tahiti.

After landing at 4am, we picked up our rental car and headed for the ring road. We made no plans that day, so we stopped at every attraction on Google Maps. By 3pm, it was time to checkin so we headed to our resort.

Where we stayed

View of the InterContinental Tahiti Resort and Spa

Since we wanted to experience everything Tahiti had to offer, we decided to stay overnight at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort and Spa. This was such a great choice since we could park our rental car on the grounds AND the airport was only a short drive away for our flight the next day.

During check-in we were upgraded to the panoramic ocean view room and it had the best view of Moorea in the distance. I kept telling Colin, “I cannot believe we are here again” over and over because I could not get past how beautiful it was.

We spent the rest of our day relaxing by the sand-bottomed infinity pool and exploring the fish in the Lagoonarium. The Lagooarium was filled with over 200 species of marine life and separated from the ocean, so we didn’t have to worry about the wind storm coming in and clouding the water.

For our first night in Tahiti, we decided to have dinner at Le Lotus on the property. Le Lotus is their gourmet restaurant and it did not disappoint. This was a great kick off to our vacation. We enjoyed a 3 course meal with a selection of amazing wines they offered.

The next day our flight didn’t leave until 4 in the afternoon. After checkout, the resort stored our luggage and we took a dip back in the pool and enjoy the swim up bar up until our flight.

Let’s head to Bora Bora

Bora Bora is a quick 50 minute flight from Tahiti. Seating is open and you enjoy a cup of the local juice on board the flight.

The biggest tip I can offer when flying into Bora Bora, sit on the left side of the plane and you will get a beautiful view of the island from above and the opposite when you leave.

Bora Bora is easily one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I could spend weeks here and never get tired of the turquoise waters and white sand beaches. That being said, Bora Bora is definitely a different vibe from all the other islands. The island is mainly made up resorts and a bit small itself.

This is our second time on the island and we ended up staying at InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa this time around. Our first stay was nothing compare to the hospitality we received here. Right away, I regretted not booking more than just two nights. We were greeted at the airport with fresh flowers and escorted to a boat. The boat ride from the airport to the resort is about 45 minuets and once the boat pulled into the resort we were greeted on the dock with music and vanilla tea.  After checkin we took a tour of the property and were dropped off at our room where our bags awaited us.

You cannot go wrong with booking, every villa on the property is very spacious and offers an incredible view. We stayed in one of the overwater villas with a view of Bora Bora’s main island.

I highly recommend booking a massage at the Deep Ocean Spa onsite. This was one of the best messages of my life. I had the signature treatment and after I had access to all the spa amenities the rest of the day. During the massage, there is a window that allows you to watch the fish swimming underneath the room.

We spent most of our time in the clear blue waters. Hours of snorkeling and paddle boarding in the lagoon right outside our room. We saw almost every species of fish, sting rays and even eagle rays just feet from our room.

This place was hard to leave! Until next time French Polynesia!
