Escape To Mexico – Where we stayed

This year has been filled with unpleasant surprises. Many of us have been stuck at home for a year and are craving some adventurer. The tourist industry has also been hit pretty hard, so in an effort to get people traveling again, prices have been lowered around the world. I don’t want to encourage travel during this time, but it is possible and will help a lot of the travel industry. Just remember to travel responsibly and safely!

Where did we stay?

The first place we stayed was UNICO 20°87°. This is an All-Inclusive resort and the first one we have ever stayed at. When we booked, we were able to get a room for $380-$480 a night. Prices were lower than normal, because they were re-opening after Covid and wanting people to book rooms.

Where is it?
Located an 1.5 hour outside Cancun and a straight shot from the airport. We rented a car for $180/week, we thought this was the best deal and allowed us to come and go as we pleased. The hotel does offer around trip car service from the hotel/airport for $302, but we skipped this option.

What room did we book?
We ended up booking two different rooms, so we could experience both and they were around the same price. They were the Estancia Suite and Alcoba Swim-up Pool. We enjoyed both for different reasons, but wished we requested a more private view for the swim-up.

How safe did we feel traveling during Covid?
Very. This hotel and employees took the situation serious. We were checked for our temperature at check-in, had to wash the bottom of our shoes before walking inside and our luggage was cleaned. All furniture inside and outside the hotel was moved, so no other guest could sit next to you.

Price Per Night (currently): $560

This was our absolute favorite hotel, but on the pricey side. However, a lot of the hotels on the beach here are a bit on the pricey side. We wanted to be away from the crowds and more popular Tulum’s hotels. We stayed for two nights and hardly saw another soul there. Which is why we loved it so much!

What room did we book?
We booked the Deluxe Room and it was everything we needed. We had direct access to the beach and our own little pool to watch the sunset from.

What’s include?
My favorite had to be the private beach beds. The hotel only has a total of 28 rooms and each one has its own bed. So, you never have to worry about someone taking your spot! Breakfast is also included in your stay at Ziggy’s, which is a big plus, as it is a very popular and well liked restaurant/beach club in Tulum. Another plus was the free bikes! Biking is the best way to get around Tulum and the fastest!

Price Per Night (currently): $500-$700 (Book early to get a major discount! $400)

Since we spent most of our money on the other hotels, we looked for something less expensive for our last two nights. This hotel is located further down the beach strip, but on the jungle side.

Overall, we liked this hotel and location but it didn’t have much to offer. If you don’t plan to spend much time at your hotel, this would be a great option for you and much less than the others!

What room did we book?
We booked the Radhoo Suite. This is the only room I would book at this hotel, as all the others look onto the pool at eye level. I’m more into the private room while on vacation.

Price Per night (currently): $126

TIP: Book way in advance for discounts and keep in mind Tulum books up fast!

Let me know in the comments if you would me interested in more of what we did in Mexico!
