Kitchen Reveal!

Here’s a quick before and after!

I can finally share my kitchen reveal with you all! When we closed, the first project we wanted to tackle was our kitchen. I always knew I was going to paint the cabinets because I wanted to pick a custom color for the bottom half. I started work on them the day we closed.  I’m a complete control freak so I wouldn’t let Colin help with much. If it didn’t turn out well, at least it would be my fault. haha. I did let him help with sanding and putting the cabinets back together because I was exhausted at that point. Colin and I really thought we could finish them over a weekend. Boy, were we wrong. It took us over 2 weeks to finish just the painting and I painted every single night. The worst part was not being able to use our kitchen during the process or unpacking. I did a lot of research before I started painting. I plan to write a post on the process soon, to discuss what I learned and what I would have done differently than what I read online. Check out some of the images below!

Overall, we are pretty pleased with how it turned out! It took some time and mockups to figure out what color we wanted. I actually had to talk Colin into letting pick a green. Everyone I told it to was kinda like “really…?” haha. But I LOVE how it turned out. Anyway, I could always change it if I outgrow it. There is still some work that needs to be done, especially in the breakfast nook but we are loving the direction it is headed!

The green cabinets were a great choice, so creative and modern. Also, liked the copper details so cute and stylish. Overall your new kitchen is perfection. You both did an amazing job!

Very pretty! I would get some baskets to put on top of the cabinets…a little extra storage and would bring the look of the wicker barstools further into the kitchen.

Oh that would be a great idea! I was trying to figure out what to do with that space. If it was a little big bigger, I wanted to add small cabinets

Gorgeous! Would you mind passing along where you got the cabinet and drawer pulls? I’ve been looking for similar brass hardware for my kitchen also. Thanks!

This is very pretty! I see you added lighting over the island. Did you add the fixtures where lights (maybe recessed?) all ready existed. Or are they completely new? If they are new, did you tear out the ceiling to add them? Or how did you add them? My island has no lighting over it. (Brand new house with no lighting over the island!?? Hmmm.) I’m trying to find a way to add lighting without tearing out the ceiling. Thanks much!

Hi Marcia, we requested to have it prewired before we bought the place. There were plates there and we only had to add the lights. Ours is also new and didn’t come with lights over the island. So weird!! I believe you should be able to get it wired without having the tear out the ceiling. An electrician should be able to do this easily with a new house (Some leave extra wiring behind the ceiling just incase), they just might not have their own light switch.

Love all your choices!!! Speaking of those pendants over your island, can you provide source info? Love it all! Well done!🙌🏼

I love this! We moved into our house in 2015 and I have been wanting to paint my cabinets since we first saw the place. I am still uncertain about colors and/or how to go about it with 2 young kids. I had been thinking white, but when I looked at a room simulator, it made our kitchen look like a black & white photo vs. the light airy feeling I was hoping for (we have a black granite counter top). I’m looking forward to the piece on your process & research!

    Gorgeous kitchen!

Hi Georgiana! It takes a lot of work. If you have the budget, I would suggest hiring a painter. I was working around two cats and a dog in the house and there was hair everywhere! Even when I kept them out of the room the whole time. If you have an outdoor space you can paint in and keep it there, that would be best and it won’t take up your whole kitchen. We also ate most of our meals out of a crockpot, so we didn’t have to use the kitchen to cook.

I used an online simulator as well and the paint looked awful! I almost didn’t do it. Try to look up other examples of kitchens similar to yours with black granite counters. See what colors they are using. I’ve seen some really nice ones with white, even some with gray on the bottom. Good luck! I plan to post my process in the next week or so, so keep an eye out!

Love your kitchen! What a great example of personalizing a blank slate. Where did you find the bamboo shades?

    • Ashton

No, the one is the photo is from Amazon (Link provided). However, we plan to switch it out because it doesn’t work for us. We liked it at first because it has a built-in filter but its hard to use.

Hey there, love the kitchen! Where did you get the stools from? I’ve been looking for something similar everywhere!

    • Ashton

We got these from CB2. However, when we ordered them they were sized wrong (This is why they are bar height). They don’t have a size that works for us so we plan to take an inch or two off to make them the right size 🙂
